Day 31: McLean, TX to Conway, TX

This was the least windy day yet! It was amazing. I forgot what it was like to ride like this! It felt effortless and peaceful even when I didn’t have a slight tailwind! The headwinds are back for the next couple days, but I loved this respite.

I stopped to take pictures a couple times, but mostly just kept riding. This was the first leg of the trip that took place on the Interstate highway (I-40). It was just fine. The trucks are noisy, but the shoulder was generous and clean. A few of the truckers gave friendly honks and waved. This happens when I am on the old Route 66 roads that parallel the Interstate, too. It always makes me smile! The number of trucks on the highway is staggering. It’s an endless stream.

When I stopped at the convenience store in Conway to get my Subway veggie delite for dinner, I met Ernesto – a retired fireman from El Centro, CA. He’s fascinated with bicycles, and appears to have a barely-hidden urge to do a bike tour. I gave him my card, and I hope he reaches out! I’d love to see him do it!
