Day 21: An unplanned rest day in Vinita, OK

After studying the weather forecast for today, I decided to take an unplanned rest day in Vinita, Oklahoma.

The wind forecast was for 35 mph wind from the south, with gusts up to 50 mph, and my course was mostly SSW. Between the absurd headwinds and unpredictable crosswinds, I decided it was.a.good idea to wait a day.

This morning I went to the post office to mail some unneedef things home. I had a lively conversations with the postal clerk, and she recommended a café 2.5 miles out of town. I decided to have lunch there and headed out of town. It was impossible to ride in the wind. Crosswinds almost pushed me off my bike or off the road, and when I was heading into the wind, the roar of the wind drowned everything else out, and I could barely make progress.

Tomorrow’s wind forecast is much more favorable, so I spent a day in Vinita. I got a few things done, talked to an old friend on the.phone, and watched a lot of TikTok videos!
