Day 16: Waynesville, MO to Conway, MO

If I had a dollar for every time someone in Missouri told me “The weather has been really strange this year. It isn’t usually this cold and windy!” I would have a considerable stack of dollar bills.

It was 38°F when I stepped outside this morning, and, as always, quite windy. When it is this cold, I just don’t want to stop moving, because it takes a long time to warm up again.

There weren’t many Route 66 attractions anyway, until I got to Lebanon, Missouri. I stopped at the fabulous Munger Moss Motel, and chatted with Raymond and his wife, from Texas, who are touring Route 66 (by car), and spent some time chatting with Ramona, who has been at the motel for fifty-one years. Ramona clearly loves people, and I am really glad I stopped.

Many dogs chased me today. One of them brushed against my leg, but none of them wanted to bite me. They all seemed happy, and I just congratulated them on their prowess as watchdogs!
